HistoryWild and Woody Rustic Signs began several years ago as an extension of the founder's extensive antique business. Having been antique dealers with over 20 year's experience in the field, the founders recognized the unique compatibility of these rustic signs with the eclectic nature of the antique business. The rustic/folk art nature of the signs grew out of a collaboration with other wood and art craftsmen with origins in the Tennessee mountains. The signs were made of recycled and naturally found materials. The original and subsequent designs and whimsical sayings were born out of these modest origins. New ideas were developed, staying true to the "roots" of the primitive and rustic movement. The signs today are quality reproductions of the original concepts. The demand for these unique signs far exceeded the limits of the cottage industry that initially produced them. The signs were being purchased by the second home and interior design clients as well as businesses which found the signs as charming as they are decorative. So, in 2003 Wild and Woody was incorporated and additional craftsmen were employed to further production needs. Additionally a foray into overseas production provided a line of our products that met the spirit and nature of our handmade versions into a line that was affordable by everyone. Production was streamlined such that today a large order of our product is only weeks away from delivery. While the challenge to maintain the aged folk art look of the signs and meet production goals and the high standard of quality was a concern, it was met and exceeded by our suppliers and development team. The enterprise was purchased in 2005 by an entrepreneur that took a thriving business that was quite a bit more than a "mom and pop" operation to the next level of production and service. The line of rustic art signs is currently being expanded to include sports themes as well as additional nature themes. Several prototypes are in the works with many more to come. Today, Wild and Woody signs can be found in every State in the USA as well as several foreign countries. |
